Using Gems
Gems are Valiro’s AI assistants. Each one is configured for a specific purpose—there might be a general assistant, one focused on safety procedures, another for project specs. Your organization sets these up based on what’s useful for your work.
Having a conversation
Section titled “Having a conversation”Click Valiro AI in the sidebar, pick a Gem, and start typing. Ask a question, and the AI responds based on the documents it has access to.
It’s a conversation, so you can follow up. If the first answer isn’t quite what you needed, ask for clarification or more detail. “Can you be more specific about the timeline?” or “What about for residential properties?” The AI remembers the context of your chat.
Getting good answers
Section titled “Getting good answers”The AI works best when you’re specific. Compare these:
“Tell me about safety”
vs.
“What PPE is required for working near high-voltage lines according to our safety manual?”
The second question gives the AI something concrete to look for. It knows what document to search and what information you actually need.
That said, you don’t have to be perfect. If your question is vague, the AI will do its best and you can refine from there.
Understanding what you get back
Section titled “Understanding what you get back”When the AI answers, you’ll often see citations—highlighted references to specific parts of your documents. Click these to see the exact source text.
This is important. The AI isn’t making things up; it’s pulling from your actual documentation. The citations let you verify the answer and dig deeper if you need to.
If the AI can’t find relevant information in your documents, it’ll tell you. That’s better than guessing.
Choosing the right Gem
Section titled “Choosing the right Gem”Different Gems have access to different documents and are tuned for different tasks. A “Safety Procedures” Gem might only look at safety-related documents and be configured to give thorough, cautious answers. A “Quick Reference” Gem might search everything but prioritize brief responses.
Check which Gems are available and what they’re designed for. Using the right one for your question makes a difference.
Upload the documents you need. The AI can only answer questions about documents that have been uploaded and processed. If you’re not getting good answers about a topic, the relevant documentation might be missing.
Ask follow-ups. Don’t start a new chat for every question. If you’re exploring a topic, keep the conversation going—the AI builds on what you’ve already discussed.
Be direct. “What’s the maximum load capacity?” works better than “I was wondering if you might be able to tell me about load specifications if that’s something you know about.”
